Why do I have to tap twice on things now to open?

Have had my Kindle Fire hd for about one week. All of a sudden, things wouldn't open unless I tap twice on them, but most of the time, even that doesn't work. It's pretty useless to me know because it's so frustrating. I had a kindle fire, and recently upgraded because I loved my kindle fire. I'm very disappointed that I have had it approx. one week and I can't use it. I've tried everything and nothing works.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I can't scroll down to get there, it's just making noise. Is there an other option.

I can not get this to work. In order to double tap I must lift my finger and then it starts back at the first step. Anything else I can do?

Thanks

I've got a REAL problem. Double tap rarely works. I finally got to the Accessibility page, but the only options available were for Alexa! Anyone help me?

I ran into this when I Was learning my Kindle. There is a pull-down menu at the top of the screen where the time is displayed. You will need to tap on it twice, but on the second tap, keep holding down a couple seconds until you can pull down the menu. Once you see the menu, double tap on the far right button (MORE). Scroll down to accessibility, select it, then make certain all three choices are OFF.

In my case this solved the problem. I just duplicated your problem on my Kindle Fire HD7 and this procedure fixed it, so I hope it works for you as well.

Thank you! While your answer didn't work for mine, it DID lead me in the right direction! Settings, accessibility, *voiceview*, and that was exactly the problem. Shut Voiceview off, and everything goes back to normal!!! Thanks again!

I am pretty sure I have VoiceView ON but cannot seem to find a way to get to where I can turn it off. I can get to a Settings page where the following are located: DEVICE with (Wireless, Power, Display, Alexa, Storage, Apps & Games and Device Options) PERSONAL with (My Account, Parental Controls, Sound & Notification, Profiles & Family Library, Security & Privacy, and Keyboard & Language. I am certain there is more but I cannot swipe the screen. Please give me your best guess.

I got it working, thanks for being there when I needed assistance, even if you weren't available. I went back and reread previous posts and found one that worked.

I just had the same problem on a newer Kindle fire. Try this. In order to get those settings, double click on the time display in the upper right-hand corner, but on the second tab keep your finger down. Do not lift your finger up. While holding your finger down and then you should drop down that should include settings and a couple of functions that are currently visible. while holding your finger down, drag it over to that drop down and go to the bottom selection which should be voice view settings. that will allow a green highlight to appear around voiceview signifying that you have selected it. It is now safe to lift your finger. Lift your finger, did double tap voice view. That will open the settings for boys for you. Go in and turn it off. It will require a selection of the voice you on off switch, followed by a double tap on the selected switch. What a pain in the ass, but hopefully it works. It did for me. By the way, did I mention that my two-and-a-half-year-old son is the one who changed up all of these settings? LOL

Unless there is a setting that you changed, it sounds like the digitizer may be failing. I'd exchange it if possible.

June, 2019, Fire HD 8, like new. I had my tablet in my bag and left the screen on while walking inside with my hands full. I use Amazon Music in the car with the device. I heard a lady mumbling letters and repeating herself. I didn't think anything of it until a day later I attempted to use the tablet. Oh boy! This was much worse than the showroom screen or whatever it's called. I almost lost it. The lady won't stop, the app is all over the place. I am glad I found this thread. I tried asking Alexa all kinds of things hoping to pull open the settings, app, or menu. This was painful. The timing of the taps and the way you tap is very important. I wish you luck. It is a test of true sanity, or what remains.

Alexa had NO IDEA WHAT VOICEVIEW IS. She told me it did not exist on any of my smart devices. (Obviously). I was able to search in the safari search bar for the app. I was then able to press on MY STUFF which is next to WEB and AMAZON (IT WILL SEARCH THOSE PLACES) It said, NO RESULTS FOR VOICE VIEW. I PRESSED THE BLUE HYPERLINK FOR HELP. THE screen came up next with voiceview clear as day, running and on. I switched it OFF.

With patience and a little savvy tech work, you'll get it!!!
