Magsafe not lighting up even after replacement

I have replaced my magsafe adaptor on a Macbook Pro 15" A1278.

I have replaced the Magsafe adaptor and used a new charger. Nothing. Any ideas what could be going on?

WHen you say "magsafe adaptor" are you referring to the DC-in board? If not that might be what you need to replace. A bit of history as to when/why the unit stopped charging, and you decided to replace the power adaptor would be informative (did it short out - if so it could have damaged the DC-in board (or more) on your machine).

My apologies, this Macbook Pro was given to me this last week. At the time it did not have a charger, or hard drive. I've installed a hard drive. When I plugged it in, I got nothing. Anywhere. No noise no light. Not from the Magsafe or anywhere on the machine. This is a new charger I ordered since it did not have one when I got it.

From here I replaced the Magsafe adapter which is attached to the mother board (the previous one looked as if it had been partially melted). No change, I am getting no charging, no lights. Also, I attempted a SMC reset, which with no power to the machine I am assuming was not very valuable. I can provide images of any location on the board if that could help.

yea - it's very hard to DIY test a logic board. The Mark one eyeball and ohm meter are about your only "tools". Board may have suffered liquid or electrical surge damage. Look for burned, corroded. swollen components, or, offer up that board for parts and put in a known working board.
