iPhone vs washing machine, smells lovely no signal

Evening all. Well friend landed with a dead iPhone 5, replaced the screen and cleaned the fabric conditioner out and display works lovely.

However it now does not pick up signal. Use a different sim card and sim card not to blame it also does not appear to like wifi, can only pick up a hotspot and not the wifi I'm telling and giving it the code to.

Are these items related and where do I need to be looking for the next action.

Tried the usual disconnect, time update and hard reset.

Normally when no service and no WiFi you have a logic board problem. You will need to troubleshoot the logic board for bad components.

Yes really. Friend gave phone to kid, kid put in jumper then straight in the wash and forgot! Phone has been on a radiator and silica as a desperate measure and then it lands to me! remainder of phone is dry and been inside with central heating near radiator to warm it up!

Cheers Eman05. Do you have a link that I use to look at the best options?

Both the wifi and cellular gps antenna are located at the top of the board, its possible there is corrosion damage on both of these components. Personally I would replace these components and see if it resolved the issue. A word of warning about the cellular GPS antenna, it is soldered to the logicboard so that is not something that is easy to replace without the right tools and know how.

Well it would appear a good clean was needed. Managed to connect back to the wifi! Its was the common its doesn't want to connect to one network issue but still no signal.

after further checks discovered the phone has lost the IMEI number!

Obtained authorisation to wipe it but think its likely to be the IC chip from what I've read however going to get the phone back for practice!

Well its a brick so might as well try and he's happy to buy a new one!

Moral of the story for this guy do not give your iPhone to your kids!
