No start tone, not booting up after install of Mavericks

I recently upgraded to Mavericks on my 2008 MacBook Pro. After install, every time i'd start it up, it took longer and longer to do so. I used it and shut it down at night and the next afternoon, it wouldn't start up. The hard drive is functioning, i've removed it and tested it, the sleep light stays lit up, theres no start up tone and the display stays black. Is this a logic board issue or would a RAM upgrade possible?

Yep, i'm guessing you're right on the money, i removed the RAM and turned it on, the Mac didn't even look for the RAM before it stopped booting. Logic board is dead, oh well, got 6 years out of it

Have you tried to clear the PRAM? (Command + Option + P + R immediately after powering on).

Here is a list of the POST and what happens before the boot chime. If you are not getting the boot chime then these are your problems. If there is no chime there is no issue with the HDD because at that point the system is not even looking for the HDD.

  • Black screen, power LED on - POST or BootROM failure
  • Flashing power LED once per second - bad RAM, no RAM
  • Three flashes, a pause, and three more flashes (occurs continuously) - marginal RAM
