5C Ear speaker quiet and muffled after front screen assembly repair?

After replacing the front screen assembly on the iPhone 5C the ear speaker became very very quiet and sounds muffled.

I have encountered a problem like this before with the iPhone 5 and the small rubber gasket that the ear speaker sits in was being pressed down over the ear speaker hole which was causing the decrease in sound volume. I was able to open the 5 up again and correct this fairly easily.

However, I do not see the 5C ear speaker depressing the rubber piece that the front camera and ear speaker sit in.

Does anyone know what the potential cause of this would be? I have new 5C ear speakers and screens coming in so I will be changing them out to see if I can correct the issue.

Thanks for reading.

Hello,

Same issue with a iPhone 5.

New screen from ebay, (cause i dropped a snowboard on it)

muffled sound.

I then replaced the speaker - no joy

replaced the cable for speaker, camera and what not - no joy

Pushed a needdle through the mesh on the replacement screen allowing the sound from the speaker go to my ear - AMAZING!!!

no joke, lived with muffled sound for 2 months

Hope this helps.

I just did this on a customer's Iphone 5s, which he had replaced the screen on by himself, and it worked. I can't explain it any other way than the mesh seemed too thick to let sound through. Perhaps it was a double mesh on top of each other.

same thing - found that there was a small rectangular piece of clear plastic that was under the protection plastic on the new screen but didn't come off when I peeled the larger piece - removed it - great - but still no volume adjustment

I repair iPhones at a local verizon wireless retailer.

The only problem you are having is not properly placing the earpiece in the rubber fitting. It is very very tricky. I had to do this several times.

Disassemble it again and carefully place it.

The ear piece was inside the rubber gasket correctly; I actually just recently cut the entire right side of the rubber piece away so only the circular camera piece was able to be put in it.

Even after this the ear speaker was still quiet. The only thing between the ear speaker and the user's ear now is the speaker grill.

Update on my issue with the 5C ear speaker. I have replaced the ear speaker on the device with a new ear speaker. However even after the replacement the device is still very quiet and the only chance you have to hear anyone is to put the device on speaker phone. This issue has me stumped right now, I can not figure out why the ear speaker is so difficult to hear now. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

you could try a new proximity flex as that is were the gold connectors of the speaker get its power you may have damaged it when swapping it over

there could possibly be some plastic/tape of the front of your lcd replacements speaker grill,i recently encountered this, try scrapping the speaker grill with razor blade and see if you see any plastic/tape residue or try and stick with needle as previous post suggested.

I also had this after fitting a new screen, I tried 2 different speakers and flex's with no joy, read this thread so tried the pin in the speaker mesh and it now works perfect

The speaker hole is about one fith of the size of the slot you see from the front of the phone( remove the screen and speaker get a pin and scrape out the inside use a torch on the other side to judge if it's clear repeat on the other side include a good blow job if it looks clear now slam it back together and it will be fine)

Just fixed this low volume on my iphone 5c with 2 steps.

1) use torch light from opposite side to check the condition of speaker mesh. Clean it if required.

2) make sure the earpiece (outlet) is positioned correctly into the rubber fitting.

Hope this helps.
