Dryer stopped in middle of a cycle.

I have a Kenmore Electric dryer model 110.69622800 type DWSR-ele-2406026 CV 54. I unassembled the dryer completely. Cleaned every area. Spun the shaft of the motor….slight friction noise, but seems to turn freely. Seems there is a signal returning back to the start button - faint "click" or "trip" that will not allow the dryer to turn on. Dryer is younger than 6 years, but has dried clothes for 6 people - 2 loads per day average!

Mayer,

Thank you again for all your suggestions! They worked! It turned out that the 25' of straight 4" duct was pretty clogged with 14 years worth of lint! The lint from the duct filled my my shop vac to the rim! The dryer ended up overheating the heat coils over time to the point that one of the porcelain spacers broke. I replaced the heating coils with a thermal kit # 279816 along with the thermostat, thermal cutoff and the thermal fuse. The kit came with a jumper wire which was a small challenge because there was an orange wire I didn't have as part of the dryer. I still used the jumper wire to go from the thermostat to the element. I turned on the dryer and it seems to run without tripping the breaker or making any unusual electric noises! I am about to run a load in the dryer to fully test my work! Thanks again for steering me in the correct direction. I am guessing that the dryer will last another 6 years, so long as I clean the duct every year! Take luck, Frank

I have a GE DBVH512 and it was shutting off after 3 minute when running on high. After 5 minutes the power comes back on and it runs fine. It runs fine on medium heat without stopping. I checked the lint filter, piping, and hose and there was no blockage. I also cleaned all of them out and it still continued to do it. I even vacuumed out the inside (including the motor). There were no error codes when I tried to pull them.

Had a professional come out and went through the same process of cleaning and found a large amount of lint on the vent on top of the roof. He ran it empty and it ran fine, but when we put cloths in later we had the same problem (my wife suggested running it with cloths in it when he was here, but he told her that this wouldn't make a difference). On the return trip, they replaced the thermostat and said if that doesn't solve the problem; we may want to replace the control board. Now the dryer is shutting off twice when running it on the high cycle. They want $300.00 for the board. Any suggestions?

My dryer stopped working after I dried shoes. Is it because of the rubber . now it only makes a humming sound when turned on, but does not spin.

First unplug it for 5 minutes to allow it to reset.

Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse helps to prevent a dryer fire by shutting off power to the dryer if it overheats. If the dryer won't start check this fuse first. Test the thermal fuse with an ohm meter or continuity checker. This is the most common part to fail when the dryer won't start. Once the thermal fuse has blown, it has to be replaced. It can not be reset.

Start Switch

The start switch is on the dryer control panel. Depending on the model, either press a button or turn a dial to start the dryer. If the start switch fails the dryer won't start or make any noise. Test the switch with an ohm meter or continuity checker. If the dryer hums when the start switch is activated, or if the motor runs only while activating the start switch, the motor might be defective or something might be binding the drum preventing it from turning freely. If the dryer start switch does not have continuity when it is activated, it will need to be replaced.

Door Switch

The door switch is located near the dryer door and is activated when the door is closed. If the door switch fails, the dryer won't start at all. Most door switches will make an audible click when they are activated. If the door switch makes a clicking sound when activated it is probably not defective. If it doesn't make a click, it can be checked with an ohm meter or continuity checker. The door switch is relatively easy to replace and is usually not very expensive.

Thank you very, very much! It turned out to be the thermal fuse! I really, really appreciate your expertise which solved my problem.

Mayer,

I spoke too soon! The dryer was fixed with the replacement of the thermal fuse, but I just went down to retrieve the dried clothes and the same thing has happened. I guess there is some sort of circuit problem that is causing the thermal fuse to blow half way through a heating cycle…any ideas? Frank

Try replacing the fuse again and use a IR sensor to find out what is overheating. Here's the one I use: http://www.myflukestore.com/p12716/fe_62...

I use it a lot more when cooking than repair work ;-)

How do I find the thermal fuse?

by

Get in there and look, they move them around on different machine but they look like this: https://www.repairclinic.com/Shop-For-Pa...

Feel the back of the metal panels on the dryer . Do they feel hot? They should feel warm but not hot when dryer has been running.

Open up the lint exhaust tubing and check to see if it’s blocked by lint or debris.

Your dryers may be overheating whether they are new or old.

All dryers shut off automatically when they overheat.

Lint and debris can block the exhaust unknowingly.

Check behind the drum for obstacles. I found an ink pen, comb, two matchbox cars and a hair band that magically found their way back there. After I took them out the mysterious noises disappeared and the dryer quit blowing the front thermal fuse.

Check the drive belt. Loose or broken.

my dryer was running and when in the living room watching tv i heard a "boom", and it stopped. Not a big boom, but enough to get your attention. Checked the door switch, it clicked so it seems to be ok..checked the thermal switch, put the two terminals together and it still won't come on? Any suggestion? I have a very old Norge Signature 2000 bought at Montgomery Ward, (remember them)?

I have Sonya dryer machine for months, I use it once a week and now I have a problem with it, it stopped working then I waited like 30 mins then it worked again but couldn’t put high temperature on it and also it was very weak cycle during working . I just checked the fuse and it was good now I have no idea how to work with it.

Kenmore dryer will not stay on thru thee timed or normal dry cycles. but will stay on during delicate cycle. Thermal Fuse tested good , no lint or blockages ...

by

If all other efforts fail, try this: remove the lint filter for one cycle. If the dryer stays on with the filter out, clean the filter with a strong detergent and a soft brush, like a toothbrush. The lint filter can get restricted by a coating on the strings that will cause a cut off due to high heat. You cannot determine if this is the case by looking at the filter or blowing through it. I know of more than one case where this solved the problem of dryer stopping in mid-cycle.

I've tried everything listed here. All components have continuity. Dryer stopped mid cycle and then won't start again. I can hear an audible click when I press the start button, but motor doesn't start. It's not a complex machine. What else could it be?
