Why is my daughters iPhone 4S going to 50% in 3 hours.

I got my daughter a used iPhone 4S for Xmas. The battery life in her phone was getting drained pretty quickly when she used it so I thought it needed a new battery. So I bought a new battery and replaced and now she is seeing almost the same battery life.

If you charge it to 100%, let it sit unused, the battery stays relatively charged. However, if she uses it, she can literally take it from 98% to 50% in 2-3 hours.

Is there any reason for this?

Could it be a "short" of some kind?

I did notice something when I replaced the battery. The little cable that comes from the speaker module under the battery connector had no covering left where it touches the little clip on the board about a half of an inch before the connector. I figured the covering was removed there on purpose for some sort of "ground" to the board. Now I am wondering if the lack of covering there could be a problem. So is the covering suppose to be there or not because I could easily get some shrink wrap there and fix it if it is not suppose to be touching the holding clip.

Thanks in advance for help.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Can't return the phone at this point. A cursory search on Google makes it look like this is a very common problem with the iPhone 4S. However, my iPhone 4S is fine??

I don't think the wifi antenna is the problem, from memory--I think it has some spaces with no insulation presumably for reception or flexibility. To prove to yourself--take the speaker assembly out and use the phone and see what happens.

More likely is a small incomplete short on the board that may be activated by heat. I would suggest making a backup and returning the phone to the seller, if they won't accept it, you can still return it as item not as described under ebays buyer protection assuming it was listed as in good working condition. Try a different phone and restore it from backup!

Thanks-can't return the phone anymore. I just took a credit of $20 for parts because I never guessed in a million years that a new battery would not fix a problem with the battery life. The seller said he had someone replace the screen. That person for one, messed up the sound which I had to fix already. The tabs that make electrical connection in the phone where mangled. So I straightened those back up and the speaker now works fine. I replaced the battery at the same time and thought all problems were solved. If my daughter doesn't "use" the phone, the battery life is fine...it stays charged. I mean it is possible she is just using the heck out of it too I suppose.

Unfortunately, I've taken lots of iPhone 3GS phones apart but this is my first 4S so I'm not sure exactly how things are suppose to be inside. I do see that this antenna is covered with insulation when you buy a new one. Bare wire next to a LiPoly battery connector seems dangerous.

Find out if she plays candy crush. this game, while fun, is a tremendous draw on a cell phone battery. I would consider the battery performance you describe better than normal if she is.

Replace the battery yourself, go to Youtube and watch the videos, go to Amazon and purchase the battery with the tools for less than $20.00, it should only take 15 minutes.
