How to get rid of icon on bottom bar?

I deleted that email thing on my mac to try to clear up some space. I forgot that the icon was on the bottom on that bar. Well now instead of a mailbox icon, it is just a translucent question mark. Is there any way to get rid of this icon? Or if all else fail reinstall mail so its not just an empty icon?

Options

If you want to get rid of that icon, simply drag it out of the dock and let go. There should be a cartoony puff of smoke to indicate that it is gone.
