Broke the Brown Hold Tab on Hard Drive

For the smallest ribbon in the Apple iPod Classic, I was attempting to place the ribbon back into the hold, but I applied too much force and the small holder snapped off.

I have now completely lost the holder, is there any way I can have the iPod work without the tab holder to keep the ribbon in place? Could I just get some sticky tape and hope the ribbon doesn't disconnect? I really don't feel like spending $50 because a plastic tab snapped.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

David, the connector is an SMD connector and possibly can be resoldered but the cable can not be fastened with "sticky tape". The locking tab ensure that the cable makes proper contact. I would suggest a proper repair and to replace the connector. If you have all the parts to it, take it to a place that does SMD repair (most TV repair placed do it know), unless you have the tools and the experience to do it yourself. If you lost the connector it is available at places like this. Also read this question The Brown connector broken.. You are not the only one....:) Hope this helps, good luck.

Well, I was talking about the other connector, the one that is a lot short and goes out to the side like an "L." The one with a flap that goes up and down and holds the ribbon in place.

Does the little flap have any other value than holding the ribbon in place? I didn't notice any circuits in it, but I'm probably wrong... Also, thanks for the site and other answer, but I can't find the little flap to purchase or a solution.

It pushes the cable to the contact points. Without the flap, the cable is unlikely to make contact

Unable, but not impossible? You saying there's a nice, cheap, quick fix and I don't have to drop $50 on a new logic board? Or that I'm still screwed?
