Proximity sensor, volume down button & reception/speaker issues

Hi guys,

I'm new here so please be gentle...

I recently picked up a used iPh5 and it is great but has a few issues that need repair.

The proximity sensor is not working, I'm aware that this may have been a software glitch but should be resolved now that I'm on iOS 7.0.4

2nd

the volume down button doesn't work

3rd

I have experienced poor service & 'no service' in places where I previously had excellent coverage but I also suspect that the ear speaker volume could be better.

My question is this,

Could these issues be related to a damaged board or cable that serves these various components.

I'm undecided whether to open it up myself, drop it in somewhere for repair or sell it on.

Thanks

MSx

*update*

I replaced the button cable and they work fine now,

I replaced the proximity sensor cable and that still doesn't work.

The issues with the reception remain.

Also, may be relevant that it was previously opened to replace the dock connector & headphone jack.

Try fixing it yourself. To fix the volume button, you need to replace the buttons. For the proximity sensor, replace the front camera. You can try replacing the cellular antenna.

Practice makes perfect, get some more "for parts only" phones the same model as yours and you will soon be comfortable with repair/component replacement on your "specialty model" then when you have it like you want it sell your spare parts.

In addition to the Pro Tech tool kit(I love mine: [linked product missing or disabled: IF145-072] ) I suggest you invest in a jewelers loupe( https://www.google.com/search?q=jewelers... ) You cant believe the things you are missing till you look through one of these.

I would check for water damage, take out the sim card, with the iPhone screen facing down take a look at the water indicator it should be white if it is red then unit has been wet. These could cause some of the problems you are having, if someone replaced the screen and fail to reinstall all the parts surrounding the camera proximity that could cause the problem. To replace the power, volume flex on an iPhone 5 is not easy, for a season pro like myself it take me about an hour. Also you should check the antenna to make sure it is seated correctly.
