"An error has occurred" when trying anything related to original DS

Hi, I have a problem with a console that I've not seen written about elsewhere. I got the console on eBay so I don't know its history.

When I insert a DS game the icon shows up on the home screen but when I try to launch it the screens turn black and "An error has occurred. Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Operations Manual for details" is displayed on the bottom screen.

When I go to Download Play -> Nintendo DS the same crash with the error message happens.

When I go to System Settings -> Other Settings-> Profile -> Nintendo DS Profile the System Settings app quits to the home screen and I see the message, "An error has occurred, forcing the software to close. The system will now restart. (Unsaved data may be lost.)" If I press A the system then restarts.

The console otherwise works normally. It plays 3DS games fine. I've tried cleaning off the motherboard because this system may or may not have had liquid damage (it doesn't look like it to me) and I've also formatted the system numerous times. I also updated to the latest firmware once I ran out of ideas. There's no SD card inserted, but it didn't change things when I tried inserting one.

I've tried more than one DS game with the same trouble. They are not counterfeit games, to the best of my knowledge. They were purchased in major US retail stores and work fine on other consoles with the latest firmware so I don't think they could possibly be counterfeit. Besides, the DS profile crash and download play crash seem to confirm that the trouble is not due to faulty game cartridges.

Any ideas?

Well, I've finally solved the problem. It was really a one in a million shot. I figured it out after I had the exact same problem on a totally different motherboard. It turns out it was the WiFi board causing the issue. I figured it out when I used the same WiFi board on a different motherboard and the problem was reproduced. The crazy thing is that I had tried swapping in new analog stick, WiFi board, and SD card slot long ago just in case one of them was the culprit, but I actually had TWO bad WiFi boards and must have swapped out one bad board for a second bad one. It's so strange since both WiFi boards allowed me to connect to a WiFi network and browse the web with no trouble at all, yet they caused this strange issue with everything related to DS-mode for some reason.

4 years, probably won't get a response but worth a shot. I have the exact same problem as you and I have contacted Nintendo. Im pretty sure it's BS they want to charge for a repair when it feels like they know the problem. The guy asked me to check some things that probably had nothing to do with the problem. Anyway, besides all that, should I try putting the wifi card in and out because I heard that works. Is it safe, im no expert when it gets to the motherboard and stuff. I hope you read this, thx.
