Hinges have gone bad.

I believe my hinges have gone bad on my MacBook Pro. The display will occasionally flash and then look like stage lights shining up on the screen. Any suggestions on what I should do and can I fix it through items on ifixit?

You need to obtain the recommended tools for opening the machine (every job is easier when you use the proper tools), Follow the guide to open the machine so you can tighten the screws on the clutches (Mac speak for hinges).

Before tightening back them out a bit and put a single drop of Loctite™ on the threads.

What about the display flaking out on me? Will tightening these screws help with that as well or is something else needed?

Check the condition and connector on the LVDS cable… I think the extra play is shorting your connection and once you get the slack out of it you should be OK - unless the slack has allowed the cable to be cut/nicked. If you see cuts nicks you could try using some silicone to seal the short. I wouldn't loctite the threads until I knew I didn't have to go back in and replace the LVDS cable.
