Display not working is it the Display or Logic Board

The display on this macbook is not working, It lights up then goes black. I did hook the mac to an external monitor and it works. How do I tell if it the display or the logic board that needs repair?

A logic board is to expensive to replace.

Lynn Heiser, "an external monitor and it works." means that your video circuitry is working properly. It could be an issue with your LVDS cable (try to reseat it), an issue with your LCD or (worst case scenario) backlight circuitry issues on your logic board. Start with the cable first.

Update

thank you I will replace this LVDS wire first and go from there.
