CPU upgrade, from i5 to Xeon?

Looking at upgrading my pretty iMac for an upcoming game, I see that from i5 to i7 has been done. With the cost of the Xeon and the i7 being comparable, has anyone tried this?

Eg. Xeon x3470 instead of i7-870?

THat's not your machine you have an iMac10,1 or iMac11,1. Some machines have been able to make the upgrade (that was a 11,3)… your's is not one of those models -Did you follow my link?

Apparently not the one person who claims to have tried it says no.

Sell the old machine take that money and what you would have had to spend on a new CPU and buy a new one.
