My touchpad/keyboard stopped working or are disabled.

Hi, I walked into another problem with my laptop, the compaq presario cq50. I was walking to my house today in cleveland and i plugged it and turned it on when i got home. The trackpad wasn't working so i got a apple mighty mouse from my imac. I went to control panel, mouse, synaptics properties, and pressed "reset all devices". Now the keyboard and trackpad dont work.

It is running windows 8.1 (updated it yesterday, no problems before update) and was originally a vista.

The battery will not charge so should I just get a new one?

I may want to just give it a reset to vista and wipe the memory because this is basically just a extra computer. If I were to do that what process should I do?
