Disk removed from MacBook in external case is read only; Why?
Replaced the internal HDD with a Samsung SSD and placed the put one in a USB 3 to SATA external box. The disk is now read only

See what About This Mac > More Info... > System Report tells you about the disks format. Look at:
- Partition Map Type it should be GPT (GUID Partition Table)
- File System would be Journaled HFS
- Lastly look just below File System for Writable what does it tell you?
You may need to reformat the drive.
