What can be wrong? 06 equinox wont start.

just got my 06 equinox. Guy i got it from said the starter was probably going bad. it started after it hesitated a bit and sometimes it started right up at the second attempt. now a few weeks later, car is not starting at all. 1st and 2nd try with jumper cables worked to start the car. and now it wont start at all even when jumper cables are connected. any help is appreciated, its my wifes daily to work and its just sitting for now, she has to take the bus :/

It might be the starter. Have your wife try to start it by turning the key while you simultaneously hit the starter with a hammer. Make sure all breaks are engaged and try to be safe about it. THe starter is attached to the engine block.

Starters have an internal piece which makes contact when the key is turned. Over time they wear out. Also, check your grounds, everything should be making good contact, not just at the battery, but also on the body/frame. Good luck.
