accidentally spilled small amount of soda.

My son accidentally spilled about 1/2 oz. of soda on the right side of the game pad where the letter buttons are. I immediately dried it off and put in fromt of the fan over night. But it still will not turn on. If I open it up and clean out the sticky soda inside, should it start working or is it fried? Please help. Thanks
