I want to replace the keyboard myself.

I have a black MacBook from 2006 (approx) with some missing keys and cracks in the top panel. Can I purchase a replacement keyboard and install it myself. I am quite handy at this type of assembly, but do not want to open the top unless it is OK to do so.

This repair guide is absolutely perfect. I knew there were a lot of small screws to remove, but now I know exactly how many, and the right order to take them out. Thanks, I am moving forward with the project.

Hi, Here is the guide on replacing the top panel of your computer so you can decide if its something you want to do. The hard part may be finding a matching top case for your unit or you could have a unique two tone. Whatever you decide I wish you good luck. Just go slow and all should be good. Ralph

Since you say 2006 approximate check with the people at ifixit to make sure you have the proper top case for your computer.
