water damaged iPhone 5 repair problem

I recently found out that my iPhone 5 has suffered water damage after it would not charge even though it was indicating that it was charging, in the end it just ran out of power and would not power up. I sent it off to have it looked at by apple and they diagnosed that it was water damaged. As I'm out of warranty and i still have 11 months on my contract i thought id have a go and attempt to fix it.

I have striped it down and cleaned all the connections on the mother bored with alcohol and re assembled it, left it for 5 and it powered up for 5 seconds, then died again. My question is, as it power'd up after the deep clean clearly i have sorted the main problem but why won't it hold a charge? Could it just be as simple as a new battery? Thanks

Answer this question I have this problem too

Ben, as with an immersion, the importance is to not turn it on, or trying to sync/charge it, as this may increase the likelihood of shortcircuiting any components. Remove the battery, and disassemble it right down to the logic board. Clean everything with isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a soft brush, including all connectors and cable ends. Check for any burned or missing components. You may have to repeat this step a couple of times. Once it is cleaned, reassemble it and replace the battery, then reevaluate for any real damage. Yes, it is absolutely possible that all of your problems originate from the battery, but you do want to avoid any failure later on. So, definitely clean it very well. Hope this helps, good luck."

Thanks for the reply, after forgetting about the phone for an hour charging it finally started to take a charge, it's working perfectly now, can't believe a few hours ago I was thinking it was scrap.

Maybe from drying out the circuit and cleaning the surfaces of the initial the portable should work .
