Replaced Power/Volume Flex Cable and only the mute switch works

I am repairing this iPad2 for a student ( BYOD) and the smashed the digitizer and broke the power/volume/mute flex cable.

I replaced Digitizer and Swapped with Different Flex Cable of same type... After evaluating the device I noticed the Power Button Nor Volume buttons work but the Mute Switch Does?

I am beginning to think that the flex cable is bad still though it looks in good condition. ( Ordering new cable just in case).

Just looking for some outside perspective on this issue.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I replaced the Flex cable with a brand new one and the volume and mute switch work fine but still the power button does not work and the cable is in perfect condition.

You should also inspect the logic board port that the volume flex cable plugs into with magnification, it's easily damaged by unplugging the flex because of the factory tape, luckily if it is damaged that is a small, separate, replaceable part of the logic board on the ipad 2.
