Determine issue: display or board?

Hello, I will try to be as specific as I can.

The main question: Whether I only have a bad display, or if the logic bad could be the issue.

Issue: So, I bought a broken ipod for repair and it works perfectly fine. I can access it through itunes, scroll around and play music. HOWEVER the display is just not there.

I have tried resets and restores multiple times. I took it apart and noticed some corrosion probably from water damage. I tried cleaning it with 91% alcohol and it didn't seem to help although it looks cleaner. Re-tested and same thing, plays music, but no display. Also the board does beep occasionally, and I'm not sure what that means.

So would the ipod work normally without a display if the board was damaged, or does it sound like it may be just the display?

I will probably try cleaning it once more today. It's not a huge deal, I'm just not sure whether I should buy a display or just scrap it for parts.

Thanks for any insight in advance.

Update

Thanks I'll try that. I'll post an update in a week or so when I get the part.

Update

Alright so the lcd was an issue and the new one appears to work except for one thing: the backlight isn't working. Any ideas?

Drew, due to the corrosion etc the way I would start is by replacing the display. Not to expensive and cheaper than measuring the video display connector with an oscilloscope;-).
