Why won't my PS3 controller work without USB connected?

Saw this question posted with no answer so trying again. I successfully repaired my PS3 after having YLOD and everything else is working fine. Controller will work when plugged into USB but will not connect through wireless. Controller is fully charged and was working fine before. Help Please!!!
