Take a hard piece of thin broken plastic with a point and run it around the mouse seam to dislodge anything that may be hindering its operation. Go under the Apple in the upper left hand corner to System Preferences - Hardware - trackpad and adjust the tracking speed

two ways to fix: unscrew the bottom, remove the ball and take an eraser from a pencil and clean the contacts with it making sure to blow out the eraser particles, second fix, throw it away and buy a cheap laser mouse, it'll work much better.

Usually called trackpad. Would be nice if people be more verbose with their questions.
The speed of the mousepad depends on many factors:
The type of desk it's being used on;
The wages of the worker using it;
The atmosphere in the office.
If you can solve all these you will have a fast, reliable mousepad...
