Player doesn't recognize any discs, says tray is "Empty"?

My Sony Blu-Ray player has been working perfectly for 9 months. I just purchased a new movie and put it into the player, but it just said "Empty" on the display.

All other functions (e.g. settings, Netflix, Pandora, etc.) work just as they always have.

I have tried all the recommended troubleshooting techniques on Sony's website. And I also reset everything to factor settings, but nothing seems to work.

Sony says it may be covered under warranty, but I have to send it in for them to examine first.

I have some technical knowledge, and would rather fix it myself... If it's not too difficult.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi jbgamble1,

Where are you from ? You should be able to return to place of purchase & get them to check/replace under warranty (depending on laws from country)

Did you try unplugging the device for a few hours (may be overheating) ?

Is there a way to update your software/firmware on the device ?

Does it play files from USB/SD card ?

If you've done everything as such, the only thing I'd suggest is maybe sending it to SONY if it's still under warranty.
