Multiple vertical lines, different colors in center of MBP display

This happened a few weeks back. Shut down my MBP for the night. In the morning turned MBP back on and to my astonishment had a vertical area roughly 1 ½" wide centered on my display that is non-responsive. To read anything, or do any type of work, I have to drag the open file back & forth, in order to see whats underneath. I hooked MBP up to my 32" remote display, turned on mirroring, and the remote display comes in perfect. Thanks to " IFIXIT", for the suggestion! I have also tried pressing around the edges of display , with no changes. On the rare occasion, sometimes the pixelization will change on start up, then go back to the original fault. Suggestions? Faulty LCD panel? I'm very good with repairing things, appliances, some electronics, etc. IFIXIT guides are awesome!

Thanks Sparky!

Dan, Thank you for your input! I ordered the new "LCD" panel last week, arrived in mail 3 days later. Started 32 step disassembly around 7:30 pm, and had finish re-assembly before 10:00pm. New screen works beautifully! Ifixit instructions were awesome, 1 step at a time. Its great to have a fully functional laptop again. And to think my local Apple dealer said My MBP was too old, not repairable, parts not available! Thank You IFIXIT !

Yep you got a bad LCD screen. The driver chips have a bad solder joint or burn't and/or the flex circuit board that ties into the LCD has become dislodged. In any case its' time for a new display. Sorry ;-{

Thanks Dan. Looks like I'll be ordering a new LCD panel, and try replacing the defective unit. Cheaper than a new Laptop, plus all the up to date software packages. Actually I'm looking forward to tearing this '06 model apart to see what makes it tick! Thanks. Sparky
