Why computer rebooting after RAM upgrade?

Hi, last week i upgrade the RAM for my Macbook Pro from the default 2X2GB configuration to 2x8GB for a total of 16GB. The cards i purchased was the iFixit RAM's (PC3-10600 8 GB RAM Chip)

After the upgrade the computer freezes randomly, the screen goes black and it reboots. I run memtest and it gives me some errors when both cards are connected but when i run the test individually, it said everything its ok. I tried to run with only one memory but still the same problem.

Today in the evening i'll test with the original RAM's to verify if everything's ok.

Any ideas what's happening with the 8gb's cards?

Thanks for the help!

Try putting back your old memory and then see if you need to upgrade the EFI. Here's a link to the Apple TN and how to download the update EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs.

Hi! Thanks for your answer. I check the available version on the Apple site and it looks up to date. Im also running the original RAM's and it had been working fine at the moment.

Try putting the new memory in again as you might not have correctly seated one of the modules. IF it still fails give the IFIXIT sales group a call or fire off an email to them on getting a replacement set (the info should be on your sales slip).

Hi! I'm having the same issue at the moment, I now removed the new RAMs and will check the EFI updates if needed.

It must be the Ram which is malfunctioning or its not either fully compatible. The best is to use Rams of same bus by same manufacturer because some times a sam bus speed ram doesn't work properly with different manufacturer.

Almost right here, Francisco is replacing both modules with two new modules which he ordered from IFIXIT sales. So there is no mis-match here. As he did put the old modules back in and it worked we know the system is OK and he also did check his firmware as there was issues with it being able to access larger memory modules with the older firmware. So that leaves us he either had a problem getting one of the modules to seat correctly or he has a bad one.

It tanks a long time to the RAM initialize.

Be cool

Try to reboot in diagnotic mode alt D

And re-initialize SMC : shift ctrl alt power with the MagSafe plug in (the light comes orange to green again)

Is it good?!

@willowfr - I think you have things confused here. RAM is fast not slow. HD can be slow if not healthy (fragmented or bad blocks). Resetting SMC won't help here.
