Trackpad button stuck, replacement shows same symptoms..

I recently acquired a Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 that was supposed killed by a spilled soda. I got it working again, and it works fine, except that the trackpad's left button seems to be stuck. I tried replacing it, but the new ones shows the same symptoms. I did have some difficulty installing the new one; at one point, I dropped in in a way that left it hanging from its cable with the connector stuck in the small routing slot, but other than that, the procedure went smoothly. Could a damaged cable cause these behaviors, or is there something else at play?

That Torx screw was indeed the problem. I was following a different guide without those instructions, and I suspect the screw was overtightened by the person who tore it down for the previous owner.

Sure you could have ripped the ribbon cable.

More likely you over tighten the adjustment screw for the button depress Review step 49
