Battery Replacement - Uppercase

So as I have been informed, since the retina is a unibody, when a battery is replaced, the whole uppercase needs to be replaced. Does this mean apple replaces the battery of macbook pro retina models by removing the uppercase? What keeps people from sending in macbook pro battery replacements for $199 for cosmetic damages on the upper case?
