Can MB early 2010 cope with 2x 4 GB RAM?

I removed the 2x 1 GB RAMs from my MB (A 1342) and installed 2x 4GB.

Only a few days later all the system sounds became extremely quite and thin. Above all, the start fanfare ceased to blare out. All's quiet on the MB front.

After all the proprietary systemtools of the MacBook failed to solve the problem, the 2x 1 GB RAMs were reinstalled - with the effect that alle sounds came back - so to speak - in full blast (= gross exaggeration).

Is the MB too weak to handle 2x 4 GB RAMs

Thank you.

Please give us the last three figures of your serial number so we know which RAM and how much it will take.

It's not just the GB - you have to use 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SO-DIMMs.

Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, but third-parties have determined that it actually supports 8 GB of RAM running Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" and 16 GB of RAM running OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or higher and the latest EFI update.

I'm using exactly those RAMs you have mentioned in your answer above.

Are they top tier RAM (Crucial, Kingston) or a cheap off name brand? Are they a matched pair (better) or from two different vendors (can make a difference)? Have you tried one at a time to verify that neither is faulty?

All what I have done was of no avail. Even with the original RAMs in place the boot fanfare became mute and the other system sounds quite and thin again. It just happened from one minute to the other - in my opinion this is definitely a hardware failure, which the extensive AHT failed to recognize.

The brand of the new, now deinstalled 2x 4GB RAMs is Hynx whose origin is unknowm to me (Corea?). But with my former MBP 15,4" late 2008 - now in northeastern Italy - they worked just fine. Nothing to complain about.

My MB Mid 2010 has still warranty till Nov. 2014, so I sent it back to the retailer for a thorough checkup.

At the moment a Acer netbook must do for the time of the MB's absence.

Thank you.
