No Sound from Mac Mini!

I have a new problem that involves no sound coming out of the Mac Mini's speakers. When i received my Mini from the seller there was a gap to the rear of the unit as the party before me did not reassembly the top cover all the way. I gave it back to have the cover fitted correctly and now after powering on the unit I recognise that there is no sound, and plugged in some external speakers and got sound for just about 2mins then a lot of static. I then purchease a putty knife filed the edges and opened the case, but I found nothing that seemed like it was out of placeso I reassembeled.

Any suggestions?

sounds like a problem with the audio board

maybe you should open the mini again and look if there is something odd with the board or the connection

I had the same problem with a Core Solo machine. Turns out the people who installed some RAM (this was before I discovered ifixit) had not properly seated the ZIF cable in its socket.

Steps 7 and 8 in the Audio Board install (Mac mini Model A1176 Audio Board Replacement) are where the solution lies.

There is a painted line on the ZIF cable. Before you close the cable lock, make sure the cable is fully inserted - the painted line will be about 1mm above and parallel to the top of the socket. Push down the clip and all should be well.

this was it for me, SSD was installed by previous owner and the ZIF cable was re-seated BEHIND the actual connecter! Phew :)

I had the same problem with my MAC MINI A1176 Audio Board so instead of opening the case again I have scarified 1 USB socket and inserted a USB audio divice and it works just fine.

a internal can cost a 30 $ on eBAY but a USB dive can cost you 5 $.
