How can I upgrade my logic board?

I am wanting to boost my ram and cpu. I know that it isn't possible to boost the cpu other than to add an extra cpu and heat sink of the same kind. I just found out that my max ram limit is 2 GB and I am there. I want to make my mac faster. Where can I find out how to upgrade and what to upgrade to?

I agree with 11team -- sell the computer and buy another one. What you have is just about the highest end Core Duo, which is why you have the 2GB limit, and I don't believe you can put a Core 2 Duo board in that case, or put a Core 2 Duo processor in a Core Duo motherboard. Even if you could, you'd be spending a lot of money and would end up with a hot-rodded system and no warranty, so it would be difficult to sell when you did eventually decide to upgrade.

It makes the most sense to sell the system and buy a brand new unibody 2.6 or 2.8GHZ laptop. It's the only way to get a serious speed bump.

FYI, I just checked, and the Apple refurb store has 2.66GHZ 17" Unibody Pros with 4GB RAM and full warranty for $1949! Pretty darn good deal.

Except this doesn't keep old devices going, like the purpose of iFixit answers is.

But it's a device that doesn't need to be "kept going" because the board is not old, and it's not practical to upgrade. When people are on the verge of spending time and money on something that will not produce the desired result, it makes sense to illuminate better options. That's why we ask and answer questions here, to help others and to learn. I believe that's in line with the iFixit philosophy.

Perhaps getting a faster HDD, but other than RAM and CPU that's pretty much what makes you cmoputer fast.

You would need to be sure the connections on the new board will work with your drives and display. Apple changes things from one model to another -- even in the same model manufactured at different times. I don't believe you can modify your current board beyond what you've already done.

Adding on to that- you need to make sure all components on the board will work with it- each and every one.

I know that you can upgrade the logic board completely. I just need to know where to look for that info.
