How do I lubricate the cameras moving parts?

The lens squeeks when turning the camera on or off.

Sounds like the auto focus servo motor bearings are gone.

You have to be very careful on what you use to lubricate lenses as the oil will evaporate and collect on the colder glass surfaces degrading the lens, also some lubes will damage the plastic parts.

Best to have a Canon authorized service center service the lens or ship it directly to Canon.

In this area I was quoted a price in excess of the price of a new one for this service.

Sadly, thats not a surprise. These lenses are not easy to open and the servo is not cheap.
