Anything I can do with partially repaired iPod?

My iPod used to turn on, but wouldn't play any music without resetting and wouldn't restore, and I took this to mean that the hard drive was broken.

I managed to get it open (with some difficulty!) and ordered a new hard drive and battery, but now that I've put the new ones in I can't get it to turn on or link up with my computer. I've tried with the new hard drive or the old one.

I can't see any visible damage that I might have caused when I was opening it, so I'm hoping that's not the problem.

Is there anything else I can try with it, or is it just dead now?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

First make sure that you placed the battery in all the way, locked with the sliding lock and that the battery connector is still properly mounted to the logic board. Check your dock connectoe and make sure that all the pins are still ok, not bend or corroded.

I've checked and the battery ribbon's in all the way, and the connector came right off and I put it back so that's ok as well.

The dock connector looks fine, and I've checked the lead works with my iPad.

I haven't put the front case back on before testing it, would that make any difference?

Not for as long as you have all the ribbon connected. you did check the orientation of the battery cable to make sure it is seated properly? Check the voltage on the dock connector with the cable plugged in, as well as on the battery connector.

I've made sure that the battery ribbon cable is in the right way round, if that's what you mean.

Unluckily I haven't got access to a voltmeter at the moment. I can probably borrow one from the labs at university next week though.

Where would I put the terminals for the voltmeter to check those things? The circuit all looks very complicated

Place the probes on the left and right outside post of the battery connector. See what voltages you get when it is plugged in. I can not imaging that the logic board would all of a sudden just quit. Any damage when you disassembled it?
