How to diagnose/repair water damage if GPU still works?
Mid-2009 Unibody 13" MBP
I spilled a small amount of beer on the top of the keyboard/hinge area. Turned the computer off immediately, but didn't wait long to turn it back on and after 20min of function the LCD died.
I hooked it up to an external monitor and have had continuous signal (had it on for at least 2 hours). Some parts of the logic board show hints of liquid damage, but all systems except the LCD seem to work fine.
My questions are:
-How can I further diagnose the machine to find any other problems that might also occur?
- The diagnosis I have given it points to the LVDS cable being damaged. If I replace that, are there any other necessary repairs/cleaning I should do just incase (ex: cleaning the logic board and all components with isopropyl)?
- I was quoted by a local authorized repair shop to completely replace the LCD assembly. I'm not sure that is necessary, is there any way I can check to see if the LCD itself is still functional (none of the liquid was near the screen, the machine was not submerged)
Is this a good question?
