The computer powers on fine and I can use it with an external monitor.
However, the laptops own screen backlight does not work. I just replaced it with one that was previously working. Still no fix.
What is the next step?

The cable connecting the backlight to the inverter might be in the wrong orientation. Try flipping it. If that doesn't work, replace the inverter or the display(whichever one you didn't replace before.)
