Headphone jack doesn't work

headphones work but the connection for the mic button doesn't.

sometimes the jack itself if moved too much or bent the solder connection can come loose on the inside i have repaired many a device for this problem but with so little information on the problem there could be number of things effecting it

Check that the 'phone jack is pushed all the way in, a bad connection can sometimes cause this issue. Otherwise, you might have to replace the headphones.

Once, my headphones wouldn't plug in firmly and I got no sound. I thought the socket was damaged. Eventually though I realised that some lint from my pocket had got in the socket and had been wadded down into a very tight hard ball, which prevented the jack from going in all the way. It was impossible to see from the outside, and it took a bit of digging with a paper clip and a very thin screwdriver, but eventually it came free and all was good again.
