new battery installed not working

I have replaced my old battery with a new one. After the install the new one did not work. It showed fully charged but after unplugging it, it stopped working & immediately was plugged back into the charger. I tried this a few times but with no success. I eventually replaced it with the old battery & it works great. I have been charging it since & that works. Charge started at 41 % & is now 71% (old battery). Is it possible that the new battery is defective?

Answer this question I have this problem too

That is very possible. If you have a multimeter, test the battery if you can for charge. I would return battery since it's not the phone causing the problem. Also, is the battery the same type as the old; voltage wise.

dirtspyder, if it works with the old battery but not the new one, it is your battery that is at fault. A voltmeter will not show you if your battery holds a charge since it only measures the voltage. Contact the vendor and ask for a replacement. Yes it is very possible that it is a bad battery, happens more often than we think. Hope this helps, good luck.

Be prepared to gamble or play hit and miss whenever you're buying batteries especially off of internet vendors. Half of the time, batteries can be defective for a number of reasons. I personally prefer buying a replacement battery here at IFIXIT, because they come with 6 month warranties (as well as a liberation kit).
