I have a thick vertical block running through my screen.

I have a thick vertical block running through my screen. please see photo. I would like to know if Replacing MacBook Unibody Model A1278 LCD Panel. will this fix the problem. I have to be working on half the screen.

constantine Adams, not sure where you posted the images. Check this guide Adding images to an existing answer for some help with that. Right now it could be your LCD, but it could also be your video card, or your cable. Let us see what you see.

Connect to an external monitor. If you see the same thing it is your video card/logic board. The DIY fix is to replace the logic board (an advanced DIY project). If you do not see the stripe it is in the onboard display chain - (most likely the LCD).

White or Black blocks/stripes are a sign of the LCD driver logic being bad on the LCD panel. This often happens when the edge of the display is struck causing the chips to be broken off or the glass panel cracking along the edge or contact separation from the glass.

To verify this plug in an external monitor if you don't see the problem on the external you'll need to get a new display assembly or you can take apart the display assembly to get to the LCD to replace it (much more work and you must use care in handling the LCD so you don't damage it).
