Audio doesn't work with Apple Headphones

The Audio doesn't work with new(!!!) Apple Headphones. I hear very little on the left side and theres an random noise laid over it. When I press the play/Siri button on the remote the sound is fine. Also the remote doesn't work.

The Headphones work fine with other devices and the sound on my MacBook is fine with other (eg Sony) headphones.

Any ideas? If possible without replacing the audio jack.

What's the best way to clean it?

Thanks!

Replacing the audio output jack is not a DIY repair. As a work around you could use a USB audio Adaptor - USB is separate from analog audio.
