water(coffee) damage on logic board (820-2850 A)
I try to repair a A1286 MBP, mid 2010 15" (820-2850 A Motherboard).
My Electronics-knowledge is ok, but i could need some Macbook- expert-advice.
The Notebook has water damage, and before maybe ordering spare parts, i want to find out as much as i can about the damage.
Initially it was plain dead, even after thorough isoprop.Alcohol cleaning.
Findings:
After a year laying around, now it's a bit better:
- pwr button not working, i turn it on via pads on Motherboard, not booting. (have replaced a mbp keyboard before, easy, but lots of screws...)
- Battery is charging.
- Screen black. (LVDS Connector has the leftmost 2 pins corroded, sure needs replacement.)
- via hdmi cable, no ext. screen. (turn on, close display)
- Without ram, i get 1 blink every 5 sec (no beeps), seems normal no-ram error, according to blink definitions.
- With ext. keyboard, i can eject a cd upon boot by pressing F12.
Powering on with all connectors (excl. keyboard):
- pwr led on, fans spin up
- hdd spinup
- some hdd access sound
- dvd init sound
- pwr led off
- some hdd access sound

Questions:
- Is there a way to power off / Reset by shorting some Pins on the Board? [edit] Ah, off course: shorting the contacts which turn on the mac, for longer than ca. 10sec. will turn it off (hard reset).[/edit]
- Would i normally get something on an external screen before booting? (if yes, also via hdmi, or maybe only vga?)
- To better work with the schematics, are there any board layout infos around? (fuses, lvds pin ordering, test point locations...)
- any of my symptoms sound familiar?
- general tips on how to proceed?
Thanks to the manual- and schematics- posters... and hopefully some responders ;-)
Is this a good question?
