phone turns off with the SIM

I think I have an unusual problem on my iPhone 3GS

I searched the forum and there are similar problems but found no equal, I think.

A few days ago, by accident, I laid the phone with the screen down on a table with water. The phone continued to work but the screen was without light, so I have decided to change the digitizer and touch screen. Now the phone turns off with the SIM card. If is on charging, the phone can handle the SIM, but when not plugged into the charger, can handle the SIM

Interestingly, if i receive a call from the another phone, the other phone listen the call to my phone even off. Without SIM card, the phone works fine until the battery is depleted. Running iOS 6.1.3

What do you think is causing the problem?

sounds like you have a short on the sim pins..you need to clean your iphone

Did you mean clean the software (restore the phone, for example) or did you mean, clean the hardware (clean some components)?
