MacBook Wont obey the "shut down" command

For the past 2 weeks my MacBook, was overheating and it was getting stuck very often, until last week it started not to obey the "shut down" command, yesterday i took it and it got cleaned and it solved the problem of overheating, but the technitians couldnt solve the problem of it not obeying the "shut down" command. Since when you click it it will close evrything but it will stay with your deskto background and the little circle as if it is loading something or closing something and it will turn off due to the battery running out, if you have it disconnected, if you have it connected it will stay with the background and the little black circle "loading" forever it will never shut down. So the only way I can shut it down is by pressing down the button. My 2 questions rely on 1. how can I solve this problem, and 2. will something bad happen to my mac if I continue pressing the button for it to force it to shut down,as it is the only way it can be turned off.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If you continue using the power button to shutdown it can cause issues with the operating system. Eventually it is possible you will have to reformat and reinstall if the OS gets corrupted. As far as solving the issue the 1st step I would do is test in a new user account. This will let you know if you're looking for an issue with your user or something with the OS/hardware.

After you've tried this let us know the result and we can provide additional steps for you :)

I logged into a guest account and shut down and it worked, so I guess it just my user where it wont obey. How do I solve this?, I also forgot to mention that when I log n to either users a "CT LOADER" problem appears both at loggin and when I open safari, I got online and read it was vuze I did what it said uninstalling it etc, but it didnt fix it. Any solutions as well? please and Im very thankfull for all of ur answers until now.

Ok then a couple steps from here.

1. remove your login items via system preferences

2. delete the caches folder from ~/library

-this is in your home folder (this commonly will have a house with your name by it)

... you must reboot after pulling the caches folder

This also can be narrowed down by performing a safe boot.

-hold shift while booting the computer (hold till you get the spinning gear below the apple)

as for the CT LOADER here is a link to a solution that has worked in the past

do you have any 3rd party desktop widgets in your dashboard ?

if not, i would first repair the disk permissions with the disk utility.

you can also open the console and look for the log files - maybe you see the errors from the last shutdown attempts

Yes I do have some widgets, but it has never caused a problem before, I quite dont understand how to fix that with the log files.

First try "force quitting" command - option - escape. See if this shows anything still running in the background. Next start up from the system installation disk and run "Disk Utilities", the run "Repair Permissions",

So Irun the installation cd? and click on repair permissions?

by

Yes. Start up from the installation disk by holding the "C" key down. On the second screen the pull down menu will appear. Go to Utilities - Disk Utility. Run the disk repair first and then the Repair Permissions.

I did all of what You said and thank u the ct loader problem is no more, but the "shut down" and now not even "restart" will obey as well, I did also what the other guy said about disk utilities and repairing the permissions but no luck still, and for some reason safari is runnig slower and after using the laptop all day it gets freezes for seconds while working

Safari can become quite the memory hog - I've seen it use up 1/4 of my RAM, and I've even heard of it taking up 9 GB of RAM out of 16 GB. Quitting it and restarting it should help with the excessive RAM usage.

I tried everything and the problem still persists now not even the restart button work on either accounts or even in the main place to chose what account you want, I have to always force it to shut dwn, And the fan is always working and still it gets stuck from time to time when using it for an extension of time of about 3 hours, the fan starts at 2,000 but only lasts for about 1 hour even though nothing is being used just on then it goes on to 6,200 rpms and it says like this all the time.

If the fan's running that much, perhaps there's some task going on in the background. Open up Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor), show all processes, and sort it by CPU usage.
