Why won't my iPhone charge when its on?

I've almost had my iPhone for a year now and it's still in really good shape. I've never cracked the screen or gotten it wet or droppe it recently. But, anywas, it won't charge when its turned on so it only charges while its turned off. It charges really slow and I don't know why. I bought a new usb cord to charge it with (that wasn't the problem), the outlet was fine, and I even tried restarting it with the home and lock button and it didn't work. I can't really afford to take it in so does anyone know what's wrong with it? And how much it would cost to fix it?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Solution Iphone 4 batter slow charge SOLUTION

Just go to settings > reset > 'reset all settings'

This is the solution to get the Iphone back to normal (quick) charging!! 100% worked for me after anoying 2 weeks of figuring out WHY it charged sooo slow! You won't lose data/contacts. Only WiFi passwords and some basic settings, but this is not a big deal compare to the slow charge problem! Success!!

Does resetting deletes App Store account and settings?

by

Will I lose photos and apps?

by

you are not wiping it or factory resetting .. just the settings. it does not delete photos files or anything else. it just resets the user and phone settings.

by

Nope that didnt do it for me, nor switching off all of WiFi, Bluetooth, & putting Mobile in flight mode & not even after powering off/on, so I guess its onto trying the cleaning the contacts type solutions next

This is a stupid suggestion, you will more than likely short your iphone and have more issues.

I found a fix for two of my iPhone 4s just took a cap full of Barton's vodka dipped a q-tip in then rubbed it on the end of the charger and charger port. Worked for me.

Savior Dude! The important part of your comment is to RUB THE VODKA ON THE END OF THE ACTUAL CHARGER! That's what fixed it for me, thanks man!

by

Does it have to be Barton's?

by

I used this except I used Isopropyl Alcohol and not vodka. Worked great. I also cleaned the inside of the port with a toothpick.

by

Ya know what, nevermind. It worked and now it doesn't. It stopped working after 2 or 3 charges and I cleaned it again, and it worked. Then after that it stopped working again, so I cleaned it again and it WILL NOT work anymore.

If you need your phone on so you do not miss a call while it is charging then you might want to make sure any blue-tooth is off and Wireless network is also off. The less amount of power expended by your phone the faster it will charge.

I have same problem with my iPhone 5s . I put the wrong wall charger for charging my iPhone & the volts was about 6-8 volts 2 amp. I charged it for 10 minutes after that iphone getting hot and stopped charging . Now iphone charge only when its turn off. When i tries charging it says "accessories may not supported " I tried it with new cable and adapter. Also it drains battery faster than before. Can any one tell me where would be fault on mother board. Any resistance, capacitor I need to change? I have schematic of my iPhone 5s.

My phone is doing the same thing. It only charges when the phone is off. It comes back on at 3% and stops charging but when i turn it off it starts charging again and it does charge completely but only as long as the phone stays off. It won't sync, the computer doesn't recognize it at all. That rules out the charger outlet and cable as a problem but i have tried several others to be sure with the same results. I need a fix that wont cause me to lose my pics and vids. Thanks .

Same here! Did ANYONE find a solution to this???

Take it/send it to a microsoldering shop. It probably just needs a new Tristar chip. Slow charging / unsupported accessories and connecting problems normally are caused by a fake or bad charging cable or accessory.

I think the price should be around $80 or so.

Good luck!

Thanks ill take your advice

I think the most outstanding solution is to buy a new docking cable to have this fixed.
