average battery running time/network adapter not working properly

hey there,

i just replaced my defect battery on my MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Model A1211. now i feel its running time is quite short. if no programms are running and fully charged it says 2 hours. is this reasonable? in the same condition my gf macbook 2.4 GHz A1342 shows over 5 hours running time.

also when i connect my network adapter it wont charge, but if i use my adapter to charge my gf macbook its no problem.

BUT when i use her adapter on my Macbookpro it starts charging.

is it possible my new battery could not be working as it should/should i bring it back to the apple store and have it replaced?

Thanks for your help!

It sounds like you have two different issues here:

1 - Your charger is bad (or the wrong one for your system)

2 - Your battery needs some TLC

First, make sure your mag-safe connectors (charger & system) are clean and the contacts aren't worn. Compare your chargers wattage output between your girl friends. You'll find the light grey print along the side that has the AC connector (you'll need good lighting and a magnifying glass if worn). Are they the same? They should both be 85 Watts. You'll likely need to get a new unit.

As to the battery did you reset the SMC as well as fully discharge & recharge the battery after replacing it. If not you'll need to do that Resetting the SMC & Calibrating your battery

Sorry to say I don't see any process running that could explain the drain from your snapshot. Let me think about what to try next.

Ok, happy your still there:) funnily enough my Mbp after being on the ac adapter all weekend showed a running time of 4:20, it never showed this much... And even funnier my old ac adapter started charging again, but just for 5 minutes.

If I open Firefox for or start streaming a short film the running time drops to about two hours and doesn't go up much even when I close the programm.

Also the computer often won't wake up from sleep mode without being on the ac adapter if it isn't fully charged.

All very strange, but today I'm going to the apple store again, maybe trying it with a different battery..

Will report afterwards.

Wenn to the Apple store yesterday, they said they couldn't help me, and that its a normal running time for my model although the battery is (Or should be) brand new, sigh.. Can you confirm this?

My running time is, when on medium brightness and using "light" programs like Firefox, about 3 hours..

Not sure what to do now..
