Is it the video card?

Boots up ok, perfect display. After 5 to 10 minutes screen develops a whole screen-full of 'sparklies' and unable to get response from keyboard or mouse. Power supply checks out ok. I'm guessing that this is a thermal-related issue of a component somewhere on the video/graphics card?

Try connecting an external monitor to your system to see if it shows up on the external if it does you nailed it as being aGPU problem, if not then the LCD or the LVDS cable has an issue.

Thanks to Dan. Living on the Greek island of Skopelos restricts your economic choices

Dan is spot on with the video card comment, however I've also seen these symptoms occur with logic board failures as well.

Alastair, we understand your difficulty, but can you connect it to an external monitor?

I spent some time on holiday in Skathos when I was much younger. Do you ever get a chance to go over to Peristera? I think thats the island that Pythagoras helped in creating a aqueduct tunnel though a large hill for a village.

Have managed to acquire a couple of freezer aerosols from the mainland, so detective work will start in a week or so. Thanks to all for the input.

Dan, 'my' island, Skopelos, is far prettier than Skiathos! Look me up someday.
