DVD player is not reading DVDs or CDs

I own this four years old Sony Home Theatre system. I noticed recently, it is not reading either DVDs or CDs. When I insert a DVD, it takes a while to read, but shows 'No disc'. The tray simply opens on its own.

I appreciate your help to solve this problem.

Thank you so much in advance.

Narni, sounds like either a dirty laser or a burned out laser. Try one of the commercially available lens cleaners. If that does not work you may have to disassemble your player and clean/replace the lens assembly. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the advise. I bought a lens cleaner and tried. The tray is just opening on its own. The player is not reading the discs.

Any advise is welcome!

Try another disc or try another drive to make sure which causes the problem. In most cases, it’s a scratched DVD or a dirty drive. This post has shown all the possible reasons and fixes.
