i7 875k (unlocked) compatible with iMac 27 Late 2009-2374?

Finding mixed info regarding compatibility of Core i7 875K with iMac (Late 2009/2374 27").

Does anyone KNOW if the unlocked i7 875K will work in the Late 2009?

I've found info where Apple offered the same processor as an iMac 2010 option.

Thanks.

According to this No - The "Mid-2010" models have faster processors, have a faster architecture with faster memory, and have faster graphics processors compared to the "Late 2009" model each replaced.

In addition a CPU upgrade is a major DIY project. You have to almost completely disassemble, then reassemble the machine. The cost of a new CPU, the restriction that it can't be just any CPU (which you have recognized and allowed) and overall cost effectiveness is questionable.
