iPhone 4 will not charge properly

I have a iphone 4; 16gb. My phone was working fine yesterday. The phone was dropped and since then I am unable to charge my phone. When I plug the phone into the charger I get a battery symbol with one red bar plus two symbols (one a plug symbol and the other a lightning bolt). Can anyone provide feedback as to why my phone wont charge? Any suggestions appreciated.

The battery may be unplugged slightly. Or possibly the cable for the battery took a jolt and got ripped? I would definitely get it apart. If it responds to having the charger plugged in but isn't charging then its most likely an issue with the battery.

Hope this helps!
