Assuming I have identified your system correctly:-

Late 2006 - 24" - MA456LL - A1200 - 2111 - iMac6,1

This unit was released with the 7300 as standard but the GeForce 7600GT with 256 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM was also available at the time of purchase as an upgrade option.

As for smcFanControl, delete it, re download and put on desktop, unzip there and run from the folder on the desktop. Assuming it works, then move to apps if you want to. I leave mine on the desktop

From the manual... The VGA is a separate card that can (in theory at least) be replaced/upgraded

afaik - the iMacs have a soldered gpu - it's not possible to simply change the "graphics card" (edit:ok, it's a 24" and has a replaceable graphics card - i hope that i won't forget it)

even if you did not asked for it - most iMacs have problems with dust and bad connections between the gpu and the heat sink - the pads are sometimes ineffective and a little bit of arctic silver worked most of the times better (i had some never opened MacBooks with masses of thermal compound on the cpu/gpu - factory "sealed" - so, changing to newer pads/thermal compound could help)

so if your iMac has a full throttle fan problem - clean it, change the cooling pad/thermal compound and the mac will thank you (without all the noisy fans ;- ))
